Atlantic County Bike Path Cleanup

Postby KenS » Wed Jul 25, 2012 11:40 am

Email from Atlantic County Parks Volunteer Coordinator:

A group volunteer cleanup is being organized to clear the Atlantic County bike path of storm debris to facilitate mowing. Clean up will be focused on picking up sticks and litter under 10 - 20 lbs (most items 1 - 5 lbs ). No cutting or power equipment will be involved. Volunteer groups already on board include GEHWA (Great Egg Harbor River Watershed Association) and ACRA (Atlantic County Rowing Association).

Volunteers would report at 8am on Sat., July 28th, to the parking area nearest the bike path entrance in front of the Institute of Technology (Vo-Tech ) on Atlantic Ave, in Hamilton Township. If we have enough participants we hope to split the total number into two groups. One group will work from the Shore Mall walking West approx 3.6 miles, cleaning both sides of the grass area. Group two will begin at the Institute of Tech parking lot. This group will walk East approx 3.6 miles cleaning in the same manner as group one. Ideally the groups will meet in the middle of the 7.2 mile path. Volunteers should bring gloves, sunscreen and bug spray. Parks will provide iced water, trash grabbers, trash and recycle bags.

Should you be available to join in this effort, please reply directly to zindell_karen@aclink.org . I know it is short notice, but any additional assistance would be most welcome.

Although this cleanup is for the paved path near shore mall, every bit we can do to assist Atlantic County will be greatly appreciated after the recent storm damage. Once we are allowed back into Estell for a tm day I will let everyone know. Thanks!
