Meriden Estates Re-route approved

Postby jorbanorm » Sun Jul 06, 2008 9:27 am

The plan for a re-route around Meriden Estates has been approved by the DEP. The approval process included an Endangered Species evaluation by the DFW, ENSP group. There were some concerns about copperhead dens in the area, so a portion of the re-route will not be finished until after November.

The red dashed line is the existing trail that now goes through private property. The blue dashed line is the new re-route.

More trail cutting 7/5/08

Continued raking and started some bench cutting where appropriate. The forest floor is mostly barren here, an inch or so of leaf matter, easy digging down to the mineral soil. Nice steady climb along this section with several grade reversals and a "mini split rock" to ride through. 3 Hours NPA

Work on the Meriden Etstates re-route, mainly raking and bench cutting.

Tools provided, wear long pants and solid boots, bring water and bug stuff.

Walk to work location. Sorry, but commitments later in the day prevent me from hosting a post ride.

Meet 8:30 AM on Meriden Rd, there is a small parking area about 500 feet up from Green Pond Road.

please RSVP

Thanks to the volunteers who came out to help build some quality single track in Wildcat Ridge WMA.

Joaquin, Jennel, Reinout, Bill and Geoff

It was hot and muggy but that did not deter anyone's ambition for putting this trail in.

Total of 28.5 hours for the day.
