Morris County - Jonathan Woods

Postby jorbanorm » Mon Mar 05, 2012 6:15 pm

The Morris County Park Commission (MCPC) has been in the process of updating trail maps in several parks. As the maps contain information about trail use designations (Hike, Bike, Equestrian), these designations are also under review.

One of the parks needing a map update is Jonathan Woods. While performing a site visit to verify trail routing, they came across many new , undocumented trails. Some appear to be currently under construction, and the manner in which they are routed, led them to assume the work was done by MTBers.

JORBA has been involved with the preservation and promotion of mountain biking in this park for over 10 years. We have participated in fundraisers, trash cleanup days and the conservation efforts. It has been made clear to POWWW and the MCPC, that we are available to assist in trail development when they are ready. We must consider that this park has only recently been added to the MCPC inventory of over 18,000 acres. Decisions regarding improvements, trail plans and funding issues take time to resolve and while there may not have been public volunteer trail maintenance efforts in the past, we look forward to those opportunities in the future.

The MCPC is very interested in expanding it’s volunteer base with individuals highly motivated to work on trails. Those who want to help can start by joining JORBA and subscribing to the Morris County Chapter.
