News for Stephens State Park!

New parking and parking we didn't know we had!

There is a new parking area at the end of Natalie Dr. (In the Smithtown Rd. area of Budd Lake.) The upper portion of the White trail can be accessed from this lot via a right turn under the power lines and a first left. This new area has been constructed by the Park and is similar to the parking area at the end of Station Rd., which is the trail head for the Green trail.

The main parking lot associated with the small park office is located off of Willow Grove St. via Park Rd. What many folks are not aware of is the larger "northern" parking area just north of Park Rd. located just over the bridge off of Waterloo Valley Rd. Features include a playground, bath room, pavilion and picnic tables.

Additionally if a more pleasant clean and quiet parking area is what you're looking for near the Kinny Rd. (concert field) access, then a little known grass parking area which is located just north of the concert field across from Waterloo Village may suit your needs. Park, ride across the street and look for the dark "Black" tunnel under Rt. 80. Then follow the trail which will take you along a Morris Canal section, straight along the river and up more Canal trail out to Kinney Rd. The Deer Park Orange trail can also be accessed from this parking area.

Other news includes a short reroute to the end/start of the trail which is on Kinny Rd. just southeast of the r/c airplane field. This reroute was done to vastly improve the sight line when exiting the trail onto Kinny Rd. and therefore improving safety. Though not a major thoroughfare cars and trucks have been seen moving fast enough on Kinny Rd. to warrant concern.

Thanks all and enjoy!
